No Finds Made During Archaeological Investigations

An archaeological investigation on the Edith Cavell hospital site has not discovered any artefacts of signs of previous occupation. The investigation was undertaken as part of the full planning application for the new hospital and mental health unit to be built on the site.

The investigation involved excavating 17 trenches around the site in the areas were the new buildings are to be erected. For the research previously undertaken the site has only been used as farm land. However, a few archaeological finds have been made in the surrounding area and it was important to check that the site did not contain anything of importance.
