Second Clinical Conference

Delegates representing local GPs, primary care staff and hospital consultants met to consider three key aspects of the health investment plan at a well attended evening conference.

After an initial briefing on the work of the service planning teams and the developments proposed for local NHS services, delegates considered:

• How services should be provided to patients with urgent, but non-life threatening conditions, including out-of-hours GP services, local minor injuries units and the walk-in centre,
• How more outpatient clinics can be provided in the community through the development of GP specialists and hospital consultants out-reach clinics, and
• What services, including inpatient beds, can be provided in local health care centres. 

There was wide spread agreement on the need to provide greater choice and move services out of the hospital were they can be provided safely in local facilities.
