First Public Consultation Meeting

The first public consultation meeting was held in the Peterborough Town hall on Tuesday 15 January 2002. Sixteen members of the public listened to a presentation and took part in a discussion on the proposals in the health investment plan.

The issues raised by the public included;

Adequacy of hospital provision
Preservation of the Memorial Wing entrance as the World War I Memorial.
The name of the new hospital.
The lack of car parking and need to involve the local bus company to improve access to the ECH site.
The location of the new health care centres.
Future use of the vacated hospital site.

Working together to deliver a health service for the 21st century

The speakers were able to confirm that the new hospital would have separate female and male wards. They also explained that the Health Authority will make the final decision on the proposals in the health investment plan.

Concern was expressed that the level of local population growth could mean we need two hospitals in Peterborough.

Clarification was also sought on the running costs of the two options for the new hospital and whether there was a local problem with midwife shortages that might be eased by accommodation arrangements.
