Planning Permission Granted for new Hospital and Mental Health Unit The Planning Committee of the Peterborough City Council voted unanimously to approve the full application for the redevelopment of the Edith Cavell Hospital Site at their meeting on Tuesday 31 January 2006. The development will provide the people of Peterborough with a high-tech hospital and a new mental health unit that will ensure patients receive the very best healthcare. Following the committees decision, Project Director St Clair Armitage said "This is an important step forward in securing the future of healthcare in Peterborough. The Health Investment Plan will ensure local people have access to some of the best healthcare facilities and services in the country. The Council's planning officers, the consortium and the trusts have worked very hard to get the scheme approved. They should be very proud of what they have achieved." The redevelopment of the Edith Cavell
Hospital site includes a new acute hospital to replace the
Peterborough District Hospital, the Maternity Unit and the existing
hospital on the ECH site. The mental health unit will bring together
adult and older peoples mental health services that are current
located in four places across the city into new, purpose built,
facilities.
