Second Series of Good Design The two teams, formed to help provide guidance on how the new healthcare facilities in Peterborough should look and feel, have successfully held a second series of workshops. Staff, patients, members of the public and representatives from the Young Peoples Office joined together to help produce ideas for a Good Design Scrapbook that will be issued to inform prospective private finance partners on key issue of design quality. The first group met on 3 April 2003 to look specifically at the design of the mental health unit. The second group met the following day to consider the design of the new hospital and the integrated care centre. A common theme
raised by both groups is the need for the facilities to be welcoming, feel
comfortable and safe. Being easy to get around with clear signage and
plenty of places to sit were also considered essential. |

The Good Design Scrapbook is one of many ways in which the project team are seeking the views of local people on the new developments. All local school children have been sent a questionnaire about the things they would like to see in the new hospital, and the Young Peoples Office have set up a page on their web site specifically about their contribution to the Good Design Scrapbook at http://www.ycp.info/greater-peterborough-health-investment-plan/. The Good Design Scrapbook is not about what the buildings will contain but how the buildings impact on people emotionally and physically. The guidance will cover:
The next stage in the process is to produce an initial draft of the document for review by the two groups. The completed document will be included in the tender package for the new facilities. If you are interested in contributing to the development of the Good Design Scrapbook please contact the project Office on 01733 875977. |
